Hello! I hope everyone is having a great weekend. So far, mine has been wonderful. Last night, I spent the night with my parents. We ordered a pizza, watched Father of the Bride (from 1950, great movie by the way!), I took a nice long bath, AND put my pj's in the dryer so they were warm...since I don't have a dryer in the apartment, that was a real treat. It's the small things....

Today, one of my good friends from my old youth group, Brighid and I visited the botanical gardens and the zoo.
It's fun to catch up with people from your teen years. We were very close once, then things changed...we both stopped attending the church where we met but we always stayed in touch through facebook. It was wonderful hanging out with her today and we talked about a lot of things, like girls do. It was pretty awesome!
The gardens were absolutely beautiful! So much was in bloom, it was about 75 degrees, and the sun was shining brightly. I couldn't have asked for more accommodating weather or scenery!
The zoo on the other hand, was quite a different story. It was a last minute decision, neither of us were wearing walking shoes and by this point in the day it was HOT! Not that I'm complaining...I've certainly had my fill of cold for this year. But the zoo was overly crowded and the animals appeared absolutely miserable. I actually left quite depressed! Maybe it's because I'm an adult now, but as a child, I LOVED the zoo! I never noticed the animals looking sad. But today, it almost made me cry. The animals looked so lonely and lost. I feel that it is really cruel taking them from their natural habitat, away from their families (if they even notice? I think they do), locking them up in these cages that are too small for them, AND having people watch them all day. It's just not right.
I apologize for my zoo rant there...but anyways. I hope you all have a great rest of the weekend and that you all take some time to relax and welcome spring!

Try the zoo on a weekday when the high temp isn't more than 70... it will likely be a better experience. :)
Beautiful pictures. I feel the same way about the zoo sometimes. Sometimes I think it is necessary for people to see animals in person in order to care about conservation efforts. Not that they don't look sad at times. :(

This sounds like the perfect weekend!! Bummer about the zoo - I've felt that same way though! They seem so sad all alone in their tiny habitats!
Sounds like a fun day, minus the zoo...i've thought the same thing when i've gone...they do look sad. :(

what beautiful pictures! I can relate with the uneasiness about the zoo - but I like it when I know that an animal is there because it was rescued or orphaned, unfortunately that's not always the case.

oh dear! where do you live?! you need to come to Colorado Springs! we have the best zoo ever and the animals love it. i know it. the exhibits are interactive and beautifully designed!
