First Trip of 2013!

Hey guys! So our weekend trip to Savannah, Georgia/Hilton Head Island, South Carolina was quite an adventure. Our resort was actually beachfront, located on Hilton Head Island. But to get to our hotel, we had to go through Savannah, which we wanted to do anyways. So we stopped there first!
This is River Street. Such a beautiful place! The architecture felt very European, but the surroundings were very Southern. I loved it. There were a couple of sketchy people there though, a couple of old men gave my sister and me the creeps.
My lovely sister, Jennifer.(who also has a blog! You guys should check it out.)
This was an actual hat shop on River Street. Isn't that the coolest name/sign ever?!
The Peacemaker is a ship that was built in Brazil and is now docked in Savannah. You are allowed to tour the ship for free, which we did. It was really neat. I realized I would never make it as a sailor...the spaces are too small and I am already scared of heights AND water...haha.

Just a few nautical shots of the ship.
This single white glove was just laying on the dock like that. I'm thinking Michael Jackson is haunting the ship? Hmmm....

There are many types of transportation in Savannah:

Certainly one of the neatest and prettiest places we saw was Forsyth Park. It felt like a mini Central Park (or how I imagine it would feel, considering I've never been...haha)

Many people just laying in the grass reading, on romantic or family picnics, playing ultimate frisbee, football, and also some really cool street musicians.
The fountain at Forsyth park.
There are a lot of riverboats there, which I think are beautiful.
Look at these houses? Stunning.

I had to take a hipster shoe shot.

After our downtown adventures, we visited Bonventure Cemetary. This was a very peaceful but creepy place.
This is the grave of one of Savannah's most famous ghosts. Gracie Watson was only 6 when she passed away from Pneumonia. Her parents owned a hotel, which is now said to be haunted by her spirit. I got chills here...it was rather unsettling. I think Ghost Hunters have done an episode about her?
Also very eerie...this is a statue of the woman buried there.

I think that's enough creepy for now.
Talmadge bridge actually connects Georgia to South Carolina, so we crossed it many times going back and forth. It is a really cool piece of architecture!

Has anyone seen the movie Lady in Black The Woman in Black starring Daniel Radcliffe? Yeah...that really reminded us of it.

We finally made it to our hotel, about an hour away from Savannah. And look at this view.
Totally worth the drive. This was the sunrise at Hilton Head Island. My sister jogged on the beach while I took some snap shots. Always making healthy choices, you see.

Can you tell it was early and I was wearing no makeup? haha.

I was able to mark 3 things off my bucket list on this trip! I went to Savannah, obviously. I ate at a food network star's restaurant:
Which was QUITE delicious, I might add.

And I bought everything used in a professional makeover at Bare Minerals. So I am quite happy that I did these things! They may be small but they are exciting for me. :)

I hope I haven't bored you to death with photos. I took like a bazillion more, but I won't post them all. I hope you all have a fantastic week!

wow, awesome shots! i love the mad hatter store sign- that is great. that shot of the water also reminded me of woman in black (i only stayed in the theatre for like 1/2 of the movie because i am such a wuss!!) looks like a lot of fun :)

Thanks, Kayla! Yes, that sign was so neat. Hahaha, I don't blame you. I spent a LOT of that movie staring at the theatre floor! It was a lot of fun. :)

I've done a bit of traveling in my life, but never to Savannah! Looks splendid:D I love the houses! Oh my goodness!

Side note question: how do you get such a wide section for your posts? If you look at my blog, the posts are skinnier than what I'd like to have. I want big pictures! :) Thanks!

Jessica said...

I know! The houses there were so pretty. I'd love to live somewhere like that! :)

I had the same problem. Still if my images are too big they will overlap the sidebar, yuck. I just went under customize the template, to the choice "adjust widths". It allows you to make the blog and sidebar as big or small as you'd like! I've got the entire blog set at 980 pixels and the sidebar is 210 pixels.

By the way, I completely failed to notice I called the movie by the wrong name, even after reading your comment....hahah, my sister was reading the post and she said "That's not what that movie was called." :)

Beautiful pictures! I used to live in the city and country in Georgia but never have been to Savannah. Georgia has some of the most beautiful architecture and views. Thank you for sharing! :)

I have been to Atlanta, Georgia when I was young as my parents were in Amway as we headed to a convention, but have not been to Savannah. It looks like an interesting historical place. Good photos. Have a good week.
