Things I Learned // From my Father

Since yesterday was Father's Day, it seems like there isn't a more appropriate time to post my first post in a series of posts titled "Things I Learned". This is going to be kind of like a scrapbook of memories and people that have taught me important lessons throughout my life. The first is a list of things I learned from my father.

...God first. I am blessed to have a Godly dad, who always encouraged me to have a close relationship with Christ.

...an empty tin can rattles. Don't speak unless you have something important and/or nice to say.

...to love the outdoors. Our family used to go on trips together all the time. My dad taught us a lot about different plants, animals, and insects.

...your results are a product of your efforts. You only receive as much as you give.

...you are smarter than you think. You can accomplish a lot of things you didn't know were possible, if you'll only try.

...how to start/maintain a garden. You are capable of growing your own veggies and it can be fun too.

...singing in the kitchen is a requirement. And writing your own songs in the kitchen is even better.

...laughter is always the best medicine. And some jokes never get old.

...it's okay to be a cat person. The world seems against cat people in general? What's the deal?

...what other people think of you doesn't matter. Ultimately, you are not trying to please everyone else, so their opinions are not that important.
I love you, daddy!

Great post - loved reading this!
It is really nice that you had that encouragement from your dad to maintain a close relationship with Christ.
My dad always taught me to treat everyone equally regardless and that there is someone out there for everyone but they may not necessarily be from the same place as you. I always remembered these things and the second one has grown in relevance since I have started dating my boyfriend who is Ugandan. :)

I love this list! Great advice with that second point. And my Dad would definitely agree with first, third, seventh, and tenth points. :)

Can't wait for more of this series!

Awww, what a special list! (The header image is pretty sweet, too!) The things you listed really made me smile, especially your mention of singing in the kitchen. Singing is a necessity while washing dishes, for sure.
